Volunteering and Room Parent Program

Ways to Get Involved at Vallejo Mill

Please share your time and talents with Vallejo Mill Elementary School.  If you can help with any of the following programs: email 

Family Fun Nights (Sept., Dec., Feb., Mar.): Family-friendly movies / Bingo game are played in Vallejo Mill’s Multi-Use Room. Volunteers are needed for set up, food concessions sales, and clean up.

Father/Daughter and Mother/Son Dances (Oct., May): Volunteers are needed for set up and cleanup, and to help organize the dances!

Fun Run (April): The Fun Run is our annual walk/jog-a-thon and is our main fundraiser. Volunteers are needed during school hours on race day for setup/breakdown, timers, snacks and cheerleaders.  Go Dolphins!

Halloween Parade (October): Help us celebrate Halloween and give the children a chance to show off their costumes!

Reflections Art Contest (due November): an opportunity for students to express their creativity through visual arts, photography, dance choreography, film production, musical composition, and literature.  It is a city, state, and nation wide competition. Volunteers are needed to promote and organize the event.

Make a Difference Day:  Enlist the community to do projects, such as painting, cleaning, or gardening, at the school to make a difference there.

Read Across America (March): Vallejo Mill students will be participating in Dr. Seuss’s Read Across America. Each class will need guest readers to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday.

Anti-Bullying Week (November): Volunteers needed to send a positive message and help make our schools a welcoming place for all students. 

Talent Show  (March):  Will showcase the students’ creative abilities and talents in music, song, and dance.  Volunteers are needed to help ensure an organized and entertaining evening.

Staff Appreciation Week (May):  Show appreciation and gratitude to your Vallejo Mill staff by volunteering during this week-long tribute to our educators.  Volunteers are needed to coordinate events throughout this week.

Spirit Wear Orders (annual):  Help collect and distribute annual spirit wear orders. Go Dolphin pride!

Technology Improvements (on-going): Help to set-up WiFi access, maintain or upgrade computers, or install other technology to improve teaching.

Website Maintenance (on-going):  If you have web design skills, help us get the word out!  Our PTA website needs on-going maintenance to promote our events and school.

Other Fundraisers (on-going):  These include Amazon, Raley’s, Box Tops,and other fundraisers where we need someone to champion and coordinate the programs.

Room Parent Program

The goal for the room parent program is to increase communication within our school community, but we can’t do it without your help.  The job of Room Parent can be done by one or a group of parents willing to work together.  Remember you do not need to be present at the school to do this job. It can be all done by email.  How big of a role you play in the classroom will be determined by what you make of it. For more information contact the PTA Room Parent Coordinator (email:

Room Parent Requirements:

  • Must have access to email – this will be the main mode of communication with parents and teacher

  • Must feel comfortable asking and coordinating parents to volunteer their time for various school or classroom activities during the year

Room Parent Responsibilities:

Communicate Teacher’s needs to parents – You will be working with your teacher in a capacity that works for both them and the students

  • Classroom volunteers

  • School Spirit activities

  • Field Trip volunteers

  • Classroom projects

Communicate PTA’s needs to parents

  • PTA sponsored meeting and programs at Vallejo Mill

  • Fundraising events

  • Teacher appreciation week activities

Communicate School’s needs to parents

  • Yard duty volunteers

  • Lost and Found item volunteers

  • Lunch room supervisors

  • Traffic Safety volunteers
