Music, Art, & Geography In Concert

What is M.A.G.I.C. at Warwick?   (YouTube Video)

What is M.A.G.I.C. at Warwick?  It is a very popular program with both students and teachers at Warwick Elementary and it has nothing to do with magic tricks.

M.A.G.I.C. stands for Music, Art, and Geography IConcert.  It is a unique enrichment program developed by Warwick parent volunteers, supported entirely by Warwick PTA, and offered exclusively to Warwick students.  Its purpose is to teach students about the culture, geography, and art of different places around the world, culminating in an art project related to that region of the world.

The theme for the 2015-2016 school year will be Islands.

This year we will be visiting the islands of Madagascar in Oct./early Nov.; Indonesia in late Nov./early Dec.; Iceland in Jan./early Feb.; the South Pacific in late Feb./early Mar.; and the Aleutian Islands in April and May.

Parent volunteers visit each Warwick classroom, at all grade levels from TK through 6th grade, five times during the school year to share prepared lessons.  Each lesson is a brief snapshot into a different location around the world and starts with the M.A.G.I.C. docent presenting a brief lesson on the history, culture, and artistic traditions of the region.  Then the students create an art project inspired by the lesson (all supplies are provided by Warwick PTA).  This approach offers our children a unique perspective on people and places across the globe, and the ways in which lives can be led very differently ~ as well as the things we have in common.

We are looking for parents to volunteer as art helpers, lesson presenters, or behind-the-scene helpers prepping materials.  Ask your children if they would like you to help with M.A.G.I.C. in their classrooms.  You may be surprised by how excited they are about this program, and it wouldn't happen without an amazing group of parent volunteers.
